About Me
My work starts with affection for the way we make our nests. Recording with paint and other materials, making art is kind of nest building in itself. It is a kind of building that is within my power: "soft architecture".
I am interested in imperfection. My representations of lived-in spaces are not idealized, they are anti-commercial images. They are messy and colorful, organic, random; HUMAN.
When I paint a street scene I want to show the beauty we create by living and making paths in the world. The buildings, the signs, the lines and patterns.
I like people to recognize themselves in my work, and this creates fellowship, or community. I want people to participate in, and identify with my worlds.
Sometimes I add cardboard or paper-mache to re-dimensionalize a scene. Sometimes it looks too flat, too much like a picture and not as I see it in my mind. I want to capture the life, the action, the depth, the mess.
